THE NATURAL LAW
Our nature, human nature, imposes certain rules upon us. Some of these rules are naturally physical. We have to eat to survive.
Another reality is that we can no longer live in isolation, there are just too many of us. And most of us would not choose to do so anyway. We are “social” animals.
In social orders, there are certain “natural” conflicts that arise. We have a choice. We can accept anarchy, no rules, and live entirely by the laws of nature such as “the strong survive and the weak perish”. Or we can seek to adopt a set of rules that allow us to live relatively peacefully together.
Again, we have another choice. We can seek rules, a system of values, that are natural and universally acceptable to all of us, or we can fall prey to a more dictatorial government system that imposes rules upon us “for the common good”.
History tells us that the first approach has been achieved only rarely, and never survived. It has always been overcome by the second approach. The second approach has never identified anything that everyone would accept as the “common good” and these governments always become abusive.
But, I am a “glass half full” kind of guy. I believe the first approach holds great promise for the human race.
With that goal in mind, I have produced a list of my values called Natural Law Principles which you can navigate to with the menu bar or just CLICK HERE.
